Kai - Shenzhen personal guide
IT Engineer GitHub

Your Shenzhen guide — local, honest, tech-savvy.

I'm Kai. Born here. 30+ years.

  • By day IT engineer.
  • By passion getting visitors past the chaos.
  • By rule no scams, no upsells, no BS.

I started doing this after watching too many good people leave thinking "China was too hard."

It's not hard.
You just didn't have the right person next to you.

I'm not a travel agency. I'm one local who knows every shortcut, every real food spot, every scam in the playbook.

Sound familiar?

Every visitor stresses about these.
Every single one has a fix.

01
Payment

"I literally can't pay for anything."

China runs on WeChat Pay and Alipay. Your Visa is decorative — taxis, shops, even a $1 dumpling won't take it.

My Fix Mobile payment set up before you leave the airport. 10 minutes.
02
Language

"Nobody speaks English. At all."

Outside 5-star hotels, English is nearly nonexistent. Menus in Chinese. Drivers shrug at Google Translate.

My Fix Real-time translation in Mandarin & Cantonese, with the context apps miss.
03
Phone / Net

"My entire phone is useless here."

No Google. No WhatsApp. No Instagram. Your VPN drops every 5 minutes. You can't even load Maps.

My Fix Local SIM, VPN, WeChat, Alipay, DiDi, Amap — all configured. You land ready.
04
Scams

"Am I getting scammed on everything?"

Inflated meters. "Original" electronics. "Special" tea house invitations. Without the language, you're an easy target.

My Fix I negotiate in Chinese. Scammers don't try when you're with a local.
05
Food

"I want real food, not tourist food."

You want the hole-in-the-wall locals queue for. But how do you find it — let alone order from a handwritten Chinese menu?

My Fix Spots not on any app. Order the good stuff. Allergies respected.
06
Transport

"How do I even get around?"

No Uber. Taxis won't stop. DiDi needs a Chinese phone number. Subway map looks like a circuit board.

My Fix Airport pickup, subway nav, DiDi rides, SZ-HK border — all handled.

Not packages. Just real help.

Every service exists because someone needed it.
Tell me what you need.

Questions people always ask

How far in advance should I book?
Ideally 1-2 weeks out, especially during Chinese holidays. But I've had people message me from the airport at 6am and I still made it work.
What does it cost?
Depends on what you need. I give a clear quote upfront, no hidden fees. The first taxi scam I prevent usually more than covers my fee.
Is your English really fluent?
You're reading this page. I've worked with international teams in IT for years. No phrasebook conversations — we talk like normal people.
Can you help with Hong Kong too?
Shenzhen is right across the border. I help with crossing logistics and can accompany you. Most visitors do SZ + HK combos.
What if I need help outside of tour hours?
I offer an on-call option. When you're outside a hospital at midnight not knowing what to do — you'll be glad you have my contact.
Is it safe to travel in Shenzhen?
Shenzhen is one of the safest major cities in the world. The real risks are practical — getting overcharged, getting lost, not having the right apps. That's what I fix.
